Morgan State sophomore setter Ngebui (Natalie) Chafeh was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, while freshman middle hitter  Zuri Smith was named MEAC Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office on Oct 31. It was the third all-conference award and second straight for Chafeh this season and the first for Smith.

A native of Fontana, Calif., Chafeh totaled 97 assists, 17 digs, 14 kills and 11 blocks to lead Morgan State to an unbeaten week and extend its winning streak to five straight for the first time since the 2007 season. Chafeh began the week totaling 42 assists, seven kills, eight digs and four blocks in a 3-2 win at Norfolk State (10/28). She then finished the weekend recording a career-high 55 assists, a career-high seven blocks, nine digs and seven kills in a 3-2 win at Hampton on Sunday to help the Lady Bears move into second-place in the north division standings.

Smith, who last week was cited on the other top performers list, finished with a combined 19 kills, while carrying a hitting percentage of .457, nine blocks and three digs. The 5-10 native from Inglewood, Calif., had a career-high seven blocks to go with seven kills and three digs at Norfolk State (10/28). Smith followed up that performance with a career-high 12 kills, a hitting percentage of .579 and two blocks.

The Lady Bears are now 7-17 overall, but 5-3 against the MEAC. They take on conference opponent University of Maryland-Eastern Shore on Nov. 4 in Prince Anne, Md.
