For the second consecutive season, Morgan State University’s volleyball team had its homecoming festivities come to an end at the hands of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), this time dropping a 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-16) match decision to the Hawks in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) North Division match on Oct. 9 at Hill Field House in Baltimore, Md.

The loss extends the Lady Bears’ losing streak to three straight and was their second consecutive MEAC loss of the season.

Morgan (3-16 overall, 1-2 MEAC) which was playing just their second home match of the season and first since Sept. 3, was led by Kierra Outlin, who finished with eight kills and seven digs. Nangeeshie Plaud added six kills and six digs. Ngebui (Natalie) Chafeh tallied 20 assists, seven digs and had four kills, finishing with a team-high .429 hitting percentage.

Maline Vaitai recorded a match-high 11 kills and had two blocks, while Saitaua Losia notched 10 kills, a match-high nine digs and two blocks to lead visiting UMES (12-6, 3-0 MEAC). Jessica Vicic had 32 assists and Kaveinga Lea’aetoa contributed a match-high four blocks to help the Hawks to a 7-3 blocking advantage over the Lady Bears.

Morgan returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 16, when it travels to Washington, D.C. to take on rival Howard in a MEAC North Division match. First serve is at 3 p.m.
