The Howard University football team is currently suffering a three-game losing streak, but maybe it can borrow a little winning luck from the Lady Bison volleyball team, which snapped its nine-game losing slump over the weekend.

Howard picked up with wins over Navy and Hartford at the Kristen Dickmann Memorial Tournament Sept. 18. Lady Bison star Tosin Elebute was named all-tournament for her outstanding performance, recording a game-best 18 kills. Keri Partridge also performed well, striking 14-of-23 for a .435 hitting percentage, while Gabrielle Martin was 10-for-22 for a .318 percentage. Fellow teammates Nicole Brown and Jiyana Brown contributed with strong defensive performances, recording 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

Howard finished 59-for-131 for a .275 kill percentage to beat Navy and Harford, improving to 3-12 overall on the season.

“My girls played some great volleyball,” said Lady Bison coach Dawn Barnes. “It was good to finally put it all together. All in all, it was a group effort. There was something that stood out with everybody today.”

Howard will return to action on Sept. 24 to host George Washington at Burr Gymnasium.

“These were greats wins for us…,” Coach Barnes said. “I am very pleased in the direction we are heading.”
