An Anne Arundel County man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for a gruesome shooting, which caused the victim to fall into a coma for four months and be hospitalized for a year.
Prosecutors say Kelly Gross, 25, was sentenced Oct. 21 in Baltimore City Circuit Court. He was convicted of the crime in late July.
The incident took place on the night of May 1, 2012 when Gross and a juvenile accomplice approached a car in an attempted robbery. He came up to the rear driverโs side door and pulled out a gun. He ordered his juvenile accomplice to go through the pockets of the passenger. When Gross realized that the passenger had nothing in the car he shot the victim multiple times in the torso and the limbs.
The victim was taken to shock trauma at the University of Maryland Medical Center and had to endure 21 surgeries.
โThis sentence is an appropriate reflection of the seriousness of the crime and the terrible and permanent damage it caused. It represents another illustration of police and prosecutors working side by side to get one more violent repeat offender off the streets of Baltimore,โ Baltimore City Stateโs Attorney Gregg Bernstein said in a press release.
