Comptroller Franchot Kicks Off Shop MD Tax-Free Week in Montgomery County
Comptroller Reminds Shoppers to Take Advantage of Sales Tax Break

WHAT: Local retailers and elected leaders will join Comptroller Franchot Thursday afternoon at the first of this year’s five Shop MarylandTax-Free Week events planned throughout the state. The event will be held at Amano, a women’s apparel store in Takoma Park. Maddy Voytek, legislative and membership assistant at the Maryland Retailers Association, also will attend.
During Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week, which runs Sunday, August 14 through Saturday, August 20, qualifying clothing and footwear priced $100 or less will be exempt from Maryland’s 6 percent sales tax. Next week, the Comptroller will continue the annual Tax-Free Week promotion in Baltimore, Frederick, Towson and Cambridge. In Frederick, Governor Larry Hogan will join the Comptroller at two local stores there.
