Franchot to Spend Tuesday in Baltimore County
Comptroller to Present Schaefer and Silver Hammer Awards, Honor Towson Business
WHO: Comptroller Peter Franchot
WHAT: Comptroller Franchot will present the 2016 William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award for Baltimore County to Milton L. “Spike” Schnitzker Tuesday morning at Seahorse Inn on the Water. Mr. Schnitzker has committed more than four decades of his life to military service and also has served his state and community, improving his neighborhood and local organizations.
Mr. Franchot then will present the 2016 Silver Hammer Award for Baltimore County to Cockeysville Middle School. The school, built in 1967, was renovated in 1974 and 2007. It was nominated because the janitorial staff has kept the facility well maintained since its latest renovation. As a result of its safe and comfortable environment, the morale of the students, staff and teachers is one of the strongest in the Baltimore County Public School system.
Later that afternoon, the Comptroller will visit Loane Bros. in Towson to present a proclamation to owners Scott and Bryan Loane. Loane Bros. has proudly survived 196 years with frequent adaptations, from making covers for Conestoga wagons to manufacturing sails, Civil War military tents and possibly the nation’s first awnings. Today, they have three related divisions, providing customers with tents, party rentals and awnings.
