The Morgan State Bears failed to score a touchdown for a third straight game as they fell to North Dakota State University (NDSU), 35-9, on Sept. 18 in Fargo, N.D.

Kicker Kemar Scarlett put on another strong performance, converting three field goals to score all nine points for Morgan State. It was the most field goals Scarlett converted in a single game since his record-breaking four in the season opener against Bowie State.

But while Scarlett was making field goals, NDSU was scoring touchdowns.

NDSU backup quarterback Brock Jensen threw three touchdowns after replacing starter Jose Mohler in the first half. Jensen completed 8 of 17 passes for 117 yards, while also running for 57 yards on 13 carries.

NDSU’s defensive unit was just as outstanding, holding Morgan State to only 64 yards in the second half and 207 yards total in the game. NDSU linebacker Preston Evans recorded a game-high 11 tackles, while linebacker Matt Anderson and cornerback Marcus Williams both intercepted passes.

Morgan linebacker Allen Stephens led his team with eight tackles while Brian Saunders followed with seven.

Morgan State (1-2) will try to end its two-game losing slump when they travel to East Rutherford, N.J. Sept. 25 to take on the Howard Bison in the annual Whitney Young/New York Urban league Classic at Meadowlands Stadium.
