WHO:             Comptroller Peter Franchot

First Lady Yumi Hogan

WHAT:          Comptroller Franchot will present a proclamation to Rainbow Coin Laundry this afternoon for its success and for receiving a grant from Sam’s Club. He also will present a proclamation to the Washington Adventist University Enactus team for its project to help the laundry flourish. Maryland First Lady Yumi Hogan also will attend.

The Washington Adventist University Enactus team is now ranked in the top 40 out of 443 colleges and universities. The 36 students volunteered more than 3,200 hours during the year to serve the Takoma Park community.

The team helped Rainbow Coin Laundry become profitable by rebranding the business, painting and cleaning the store, and developing an after-school tutoring program for the children of customers. A $2,100 grant from the Sam’s Club “Step Up for Small Business” program helped fund the student-initiated small business improvements at the laundry and throughout the Long Branch area of Takoma Park.
