Just hours after claiming her fifth career Wimbledon singles title, Serena Williams joined her older sister, Venus, to claim their fifth Wimbledon doubles championship on July 7 at Wimbledon, England. The Williams sisters beat Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.

” very long,” Serena told reporters after the match. “I was just happy to do it with singles and continue it with doubles.”

Both Serena and Venus now hold five Wimbledon singles championships as well as five won together in doubles competition. In each of their five Wimbledon doubles titles, one of the sisters also claimed the title in the singles event.

It was the first doubles tournament that the Williams sisters had won together in more than two years. They now share 14 career Grand Slam doubles championships, the third most in the history of the sport.

The Wimbledon doubles event served as a good warm-up for the two sisters who will team up with each other to compete in the doubles event at this summer’s Olympics in London. They won Gold medals in the 2008 and 2004 Olympics together.
