A sign welcomes visitors to Fort Benning in Georgia. Originally named in honor of Confederate General Henry Benning, in 2023 the base was renamed Fort Moore, to recognize the life and legacy of General Hal Moore and his wife Julia. Now, the 47th president’s administration has reversed course. The base is once again known as “Fort Benning,” only this time, the honoree is Distinguished Service Cross recipient Corporal Fred.
