The Honorable John Robert Lewis

Kwanza Hall “the right choice” to Fill John Lewis’s Seat, Says John-Miles Lewis, Son of Civil Rights Leader

Keeping Seat Empty Until December Harms Constituents; Ignores all Congressman Lewis Stood For

ATLANTA – Citing a need to fill his father’s unexpired term as quickly as possible, John-Miles Lewis, son of the late Civil Rights leader, today endorsed Kwanza Hall and called for his immediate swearing-in.

Hall, a former Atlanta City Councilor and longtime friend and neighbor to the Lewis family, was the top vote-getter in Tuesday’s special election held to fill Congressman Lewis’s term representing Georgia’s Fifth Congressional District.

Congressman Lewis died on July 17, 2020.

“I’ve known Kwanza Hall for decades,” said the younger Lewis, “he is the perfect candidate to complete my Father’s term and maintain his legacy, if only for a short time. He is the right choice.”

Mr. Lewis called on the remaining candidate in the race, Robert M. Franklin, Jr, to follow the lead of the majority of the district’s voters and endorse Mr. Hall.

“Our country is in crisis. Now more than ever, the Fifth Congressional District of Georgia needs to be represented with a voice and a vote. With several critical bills pending, and with a presidential election demanding strict oversight, we need a proven leader who is experienced in the legislative process and will stand strong to stop voter suppression, racism, police violence, and the mismanagement of the COVID-19 crisis. I know Kwanza Hall will continue my father’s legacy of advocacy and activism on behalf of all the people who call the Fifth District home.

“I’m asking all of the District Five leaders, including all of the candidates from the special election, to join me in endorsing and supporting Kwanza Hall to be our next Congressman.”
