Just months after his release from jail and fresh off the box office success of his movie “Takers,” rapper T.I. has again found himself in trouble.

According to MTVNews.com, T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, and his wife Tameka “Tiny” Cottle were arrested in Los Angeles on Sept. 1 for possession of a controlled substance.

The rapper was pulled over by police at approximately 10:30 p.m. when he made an illegal U-turn in his Maybach on Sunset Boulevard. Upon approaching the car, officers reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana from inside the vehicle, prompting a search of the car and its passengers. No charges for marijuana possession were filed.

A spokeswoman for the sheriff’s department told MTV the controlled substance in the vehicle was described as an unspecified amount of pills that “resembled ecstasy.” She also confirmed that other passengers riding in the vehicle were not charged with any crimes.

The Atlanta-born rapper served a year and a day in prison stemming from his federal weapons charge in 2008, the Associated Press reported. He initially faced a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count, but his sentences were reduced following his guilty plea.

T.I.’s attorneys have not confirmed whether the arrest could impact his ongoing probation in connection with his previous case. The couple was released on $10,000 bail early morning on Sept. 3.

His arrest comes following the box office success of his new movie “Takers.” According to the AP, the heist thriller earned $20.5 million in its opening weekend last month.

T.I. is currently anticipating the release of his newest album “King Uncaged,” which is set to be released on Sept. 28.
