There are many seminal moments of the Civil Rights Movement. From the Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955 to lunch counter protests across the country, history books around the world tell how activists fought for Black freedom and equal rights for all. Though many events fill the pages of time, the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom is a day that will forever symbolize what it means to organize in peaceful protest. Today, the work of Martin Luther King Jr, Ph.D. and others on that day are forever frozen for future generations to study, thanks to reporters and photographers like Lula Patterson, James D. Williams and Irving H. Phillips Jr.
