Motivational speaker and author Wes Moore was one of the planters, June 27, when Art with a Heart planted a tree in honor of the author and youth advocate.

The planting at the corner of E. Baltimore Street and Montford Avenue was to show their appreciation for Moore, 34, having served as guest speaker at the non-profit’s May 18 fundraiser. The tree is a representation of Moore’s inspiring messages and is filled with artistic notes of hope and joy. The design came from elementary school students, event committee members and those who attended the fundraiser in May.

The 7-foot maple tree is filled with motivational messages and inspirational words. Hanging on the tree branches are mirror glass pieces, and beaded quotes, which add life to the community. The messages reflect Moore’s message of how positive relationships can change your path in life.

Randi Pupkin, executive director of Art with a Heart, cited Nelson Henderson’s inspirational quote: “The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under shade you do not expect to sit.”

Art with a Heart brings visual art programs to children who have been abused, neglected and abandoned in Baltimore. Since 2000, they have provided access to positive and productive programs and the chance to embrace new ideas and skills in a structured environment.
