Three graduates of Tuskegee University, the venerated HBCU founded by Booker T. Washington in Tuskegee, Ala., are stars of a new reality show on Animal Planet called “The Vet Life.”
The cable network show features the lives and careers of veterinarians Diarra Blue, Aubrey Ross and Michael Lavigne, who recently moved to Houston to open a full-service veterinarian hospital and animal shelter together. In addition to capturing sometimes harrowing moments as they work to save the lives of their mostly-four-legged patients, the series also depicts the doctors’ friendship and their family lives.
Before the show’s network premiere, the Tuskegee campus community was graced with a preview, and the doctors answered questions from, and offered words of advice to, faculty and students from the College of Veterinary Medicine via Skype.
“Believe in yourself. Believe in your heart that you can make it. Go out there and rock,” Dr. Ross said, according to a university press release.
The doctors also praised the quality of the veterinary program at Tuskegee and thanked their professors in the audience.
“We shine around this world and don’t let anyone tell you different,” Dr. Blue said of Tuskegee-trained veterinarians. “You made a solid decision in life.”
“The Vet Life” airs Saturdays at 10 p.m. EST on Animal Planet.
