Tyler Perry has been nominated for several “Razzies,” the annual comic award satirizing the worst in filmmaking, topping off what has been a rough year for the Black media mogul.

The nominations come after the disappointing performance of “Madea’s Witness Protection,” the latest installation in his successful Madea franchise and Perry’s much-criticized debut in action films, “Alex Cross.”

“Witness Protection” was nominated in five Razzie categories: Worst Actress, Tyler Perry (in drag); Worst Screen Couple, Tyler Perry and His Drag Get-Up; Worst Director, Tyler Perry; Worst Screen Ensemble and Worst Remake, Rip-off or Sequel.

Tyler Perry also joined fellow Black actor Eddie Murphy in the Worst Actor category for his lead role in the thriller “Alex Cross” and in “Good Deeds”; Murphy was nominated for “A Thousand Words.”

Now in their 33rd year, The Razzies—officially called The Golden Raspberry Awards—were created by author John Wilson as a “logical antidote to Tinsel Town’s annual glut of self-congratulatory awards.”

In the past, “dis-honored” actors and actresses have poked fun at themselves, arriving in person to accept their $4.79 gold-spray-painted trophy. For example, Halle Berry spoofed her infamously tearful Oscar acceptance speech when she accepted the Razzie for her much-derided role in 2004’s “Catwoman.”

This year, “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II” led all Razzie contenders with a whopping 11 nominations.

Razzie winners will be announced on Feb. 23, the night before the Oscars.
