It didn’t take much time for the University of District of Columbia (UDC) women’s basketball team to get over its Feb. 16 loss to local rival Bowie State. The team bounced back with an impressive 85-43 thrashing of Central State University at Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium in Wilberforce, Ohio on Feb. 19.

The game was practically decided by halftime as UDC took a 40-19 lead into the locker room.

Junior guard Kendra Johnson led UDC with 16 points, and added three rebounds, two assists and four steals. UDC freshman forward Monet Nias, a Glen Burnie, Md. native, also scored double-digit points with 13, along with four rebounds. Junior guard Jamilia Bonner added 11 points, seven rebounds, and one block, senior captain Lillian McGill scored her tenth double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 boards.

Central State sophomore forward Taylor Hanson led her team with 12 points, but the entire squad shot just 27 percent from the field.

UDC advanced to a 16-8 overall record and will face Urbana on Feb. 21 in Urbana, Ohio.
