(Updated 8/9/2013) A shared interest in education reform has blossomed into romance for the widow of Apple founder Steve Jobs and former Washington, D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty according to The (U.K.) Daily Mail and The Washington Post.

Laurene Powell Jobs was married to Steve Jobs for 20 years, until his death from cancer in October 2011. According to The Mail, Powell Jobs, 49, is believed to have met Fenty, 42, at an education conference that same year, following Fenty’s defeat in the 2010 Democratic primary of the D.C. mayoral election.

According to The Post, Fenty’s association with Laurene Jobs led to a position on the board of College Track, a non-profit college prep program targeting underserved students.

That in turn led to a job in September 2012 as a special adviser with Andreessen Horowitz, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm. The Post reported that the wife of the firm’s co-founder, Marc Andreessen, is close friends with Powell Jobs.

Sources told The Post that Fenty and Powell Jobs’ relationship reportedly turned to romance shortly after Fenty announced that he was separating from his wife of 15 years, Michelle, in January. Fenty and Powell Jobs each have three children from their previous marriages.

Powell Jobs, who was photographed wearing her wedding ring as recently as last month, inherited an estate worth an estimated $10 billion, The Mail reported, making her one of the richest women in the U.S.
