To better serve the community, particularly local youths, the Y of Central Maryland is seeking volunteers willing to serve as mentors.

Y mentors work with children between the ages of 6 and 18 who have been identified as “at risk” and in need of additional adult support in their lives. According to a press release issued by Y of Central Maryland, some children may be failing school, chronically absent or show other signs of trouble.

Mentors are required to serve two hours a week for one year and will meet with regularly assigned children to participate in various activities. Both mentor and mentee receive free Y membership for a year, providing they remain active in the program.

Volunteer requirements include:
Being at least 23 years old
Completing 21 hours of mentor training
Offering ways to engage youth in positive, fun activities at the Y
