June 9, 2012) The 2012 outdoor track and field season officially ended for Morgan State University on the first day of the NCAA track and field championships June 6 at Drake University.

The women’s 4×100 relay team, the highlight of Morgan State’s track and field program this season, had won five straight first place finishes entering the NCAA Championship. But their streak and their season ended as they finished in seventh place with a time of 44.97 during the NCAA Championships.

Made up of junior Brittney Wattley, sophomores Teyanna Green, Charisma Green and Ekundayo Sogbesan, the relay team had dominated in several events leading up to the NCAA Championships. They took first place in 4×100 meter relay at the Coppin State Open April 14 with a time of 46.58, then captured first place in the same event at the MSU Legacy Meet April 20 with a time of 45.43. The team then set a new 4×100 meter record at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship May 5 with a time of 44.93.

The 4×100 relay team also finished in first place with a time of 46.12 at the Penn Relays April 28, and claimed gold at the ECAC Championships May 11 with a time of 44.93, giving them their fifth consecutive first place finish.

Morgan State sophomore Emmanuel Stewart represented the men’s team at the NCAA Championships, and placed eighth in the discus event with a throw of 180 feet, five inches.
